Original OJB Research Highlighted by The Landscape Architecture Foundation

Underutilized spaces near highways are being transformed into sites for public parks and activation. With their proximity to traffic-related air pollution (TRAP), designers must consider reliable data on negative health impacts. In this emerging field of study, The Landscape Architecture Foundation awarded a Deb Mitchell Grant to Principal Investigators Allison Harvey, ASLA, PLA, OJB Principal and Director of OJB*lab, and Braun Intertec Vice President and Principal Scientist, Andy Adams.

Over 550 people signed up to learn about their original research “From Brownfields to Greenfields”, a year-long study that conducted soil, plant, and air pollution sampling along the Route I-95 corridor in Philadelphia. Their preliminary conclusions point the way for scientists and designers to study the future development of landscapes near highways to reduce exposure to near-road pollution. The webinar can be viewed on demand to earn 1.0 PDH (LA CES/HSW) through the Landscape Architecture Continuing Education System (LA CES) following successful completion of a short quiz.
