The new Atrium at the iconic Plaza of the Americas opened in Downtown Dallas and has been covered in the Dallas Morning News and DMN blog.

The Plaza takes the place of an outdated and underused skating rink which was originally installed at the center of the impressive 15 story atrium, converting the large space into a 1-acre meeting, dining and relaxing garden for building tenants.

OJB’s own Jim Burnett is quoted in the blog by DMN real estate editor Steve Brown.

“You leave the corporate world when you go down there,” said OJB president James Burnett. “It was critical to get a lot of vegetation in the space and the sound of water and the rich materials like the wood decking… It feels good down there — I’ve been watching how people are using it.”

A view from the mezzanine reveals full plantings which break the large space into kinder, smaller alcoves.

Architectural water features run around the plantings and by the dining areas, lending a sensory element to the building and offsetting the acoustic challenges posed by a large  atrium.
