JAMES BURNETT TO SPEAK THIS FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 20TH AT DROUGHT AND BEAUTY: LANDSCAPE AS NECESSITY DEBATE SERIES

Jim Burnett will be speaking in Los Angeles at the “Drought & Beauty” lecture series on November 20th6 pm, Helms Design Center (8745 Washington Blvd., Culver City).

The “Drought & Beauty” lecture series was initiated by Professor Kelly Shannon, of  the USC Landscape Architecture + Urbanism Program, and the series includes four events this year.

“As we are in the midst of four years of drought, it will no doubt become clear that in order to go beyond the well-intentioned policies of state and local leaders, in order to have beauty in times of drought, there is an absolute necessity of landscape architecture,” said Shannon.

Professor Shannon was motivated to start the series “to create a vital platform for debate and the exchange of ideas concerning the most pressing issues confronting Los Angeles” in addition to being “committed to exposing students to the city’s leading thinkers and practitioners in dialogue with top-notch landscape architects from around the world.”

The series is co-sponsored by USC’s Landscape Architecture + Urbanism Program, Cal Poly Pomona’s Landscape Architecture Program, and UCLA’s Extension Program in Landscape Architecture. Shannon hopes to incorporate the annual series into a USC course.

The event is open to the public, and the full schedule is below.
