VIDEO: THE BROCHSTEIN PAVILION AT RICE UNIVERSITY

Concurrent with the receipt of a National ASLA Honor Award and the continuing success of the project, The Office of James Burnett has commissioned a short film about the Brochstein Pavilion at Rice University.

Designed in collaboration with New York City-based architect Thomas Phifer and Partners, the garden reinforces the framework of the existing quadrangle and creates a central gathering point on the campus. Noted for its departure from the campus vernacular, the project is organized around a 6,000 SF cafe pavilion that has rejuvenated an underserved area of the university.

Narration is provided by noted Houston architectural critic Stephen Fox and Raymond Brochstein, whose generosity made the project possible. The film also features James Burnett, FASLA, who discusses the project’s design program.
