The Allen Center in Houston is undergoing a huge transformation into a vibrant community space with a mix of features and amenities that include an upscale restaurant and performance/event space. A major component of this project is the green space, designed by OJB. The new courtyard/central plaza design removes a second-level bridge and the berm under it, transforming the area into a one-acre, publicly-accessible lawn. The lawn will have activity areas for events, art installations, and performances, as well as retail, patios, a bar, and a dining terrace. The redevelopment of the Allen Center contributes to the revitalization of the downtown business district, creating a new place to work, play and unwind.  Construction is expected to begin this June.
