The RiverFront revitalization project in Omaha achieved a Platinum rating in the Envision certification program from the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure. It is the first project in Nebraska to achieve this goal. The Envision rating system is a comprehensive framework for assessing sustainability, resiliency, and equity in civil infrastructure with third-party verification by ISI. The RiverFront is a multi-phase and multi-year plan to create a more connected and equitable public realm connection to the Missouri River made possible by a partnership between OJB Landscape Architecture (OJB), HDR, the Metropolitan Entertainment & Convention Authority (MECA), Kiewit, and the City of Omaha, along with a team of technical collaborators. Omaha-based HDR led the Envision certification process.
Mayor Jean Stothert of the City of Omaha noted, “Everything we accomplish in Omaha is a result of great partnerships. The RiverFront is an extraordinary example of a public-private partnership that will have long-lasting benefits for Omaha. Throughout the planning, design and construction of the parks, our team has prioritized preservation, public art, native Nebraska landscaping and amenities that offer something for everyone.”
