The Moody Center elevates Austin’s entertainment offerings with flexible outdoor space and terraces that support pre- and post-game events.
The Moody Center is Austin’s newest sports and entertainment venue, and successor to the university’s Frank Erwin Center. Primarily home to UT Austin’s Men’s and Women’s basketball games, the 15,000-seat venue also hosts graduations, concerts, and other events for the Austin community.
The project site navigates 40-feet of grade change with terraced seating, walls, and stairs accented by ornamental planting. At the site’s highest point, the 300 Level seats exit onto an upper plaza, lined by canopy trees along the perimeter, creating a welcoming gathering space for pre- and post-game events. Below, the 100 Level exits onto the 15,700 square foot game day plaza, which sits over structure. Here, a lawn and deck with moveable seating and raised planters enhance the game day event experience by providing gathering areas. Several large, mature live oaks were relocated on site to create scale.
”Landscape is an essential forecourt to campus events and activities, extending the experience for all.
”Connection to nature is enhanced by the transparent facade of the arena.
